You may already know about keeping your computer safe but if you don’t here is our brief guide to everything you need to know about mobile computing and security..
What is a notebook cable lock?
A notebook cable lock is either a numbered combination lock or key lock attached to a cable which you can secure to your laptop or notebook to deter theft. The locking part of the cable fits into the security slot (see Kensington standard below) on your computer and the other end of the cable is secured or tied around the most immoveable object you can find – usually a heavy table or similar.
It is an ideal solution for those of us who work away from the office, students living in dorms or studying outside and all of us who use our machines on the go.
The security slot can be found on the great majority of portable electronic equipment – everything from flat screen televisions to tablet PC’s. It is a small, reinforced slot into which you can attach a notebook cable lock and cable mechanism which acts as a deterrent for thieves and opportunistic criminals. Check to see what security standard you have. The slot has been present on most laptops since the year 2000.
